About Mike Worley
I am a sports and travel photographer based in Louisville KY USA. While this is my current focus, I have also engaged in portrait, macro, and street photography.
I have only been actively involved in photography for about eight years, but I have dedicated myself to improving the craft. That is the principal reason I have tried my hand at several different genres of photography. I dabbled in photography in high school but did not seriously engage in the practice until a few years ago. It has now become one of my favorite pastimes.
My sports photos range from juniors to Division I college. I am retired from teaching at a university but am still active in college sports officiating. Because I am involved in college athletics, I have access to some great venues. But my main interest in sports photography is photographing my grandson in his athletic endeavors. He is a three-sport athlete at this point in his life.
I don't maintain sports photos on this page since they are not for sale. However, you can see my Sports Photos here.
Most of my travel photos currently are from the US midwest and northwest. I also feature a number of photos from my travels in Europe. In fact, it was a trip to Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and Czechia in 2016 that spurred a renewed interest in photography.
I have lived in Louisville, Kentucky for more than 20 years. But before moving to Louisville, I lived for many years in the Boise, Idaho area so my collections include photos from that area as well.
My primary camera is a Nikon Z8. My most used lens is a Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8. I also use a Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 for closer shots. For macro shots, I use a Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.8 with macro filters. I also use this lens without filters for close-in, particularly for -under the basket- shots in basketball.
I occasionally shoot with my iPhone 14 pro (the best camera is the one you have with you) but I try to have my Nikon close by most of the time.
